We need to give children the best start in life by making sure they know how to read. And we need to help teachers do their best possible job helping students to become literate. At the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance, we have spent the last decade developing and researching ABRACADABRA, early literacy software designed to teach all children how to read and help teachers do their best teaching them. ABRACADABRA is an evidence-based tool designed to teach students the fundamental skills and subskills for effective reading including alphabetics, fluency, comprehension and writing. This presentation, will outline the need for ABRACADRA, the evidence on which it is based and the evidence that has been collected documenting its effectiveness. He will also demonstrate the tool and present a video showing ABRACADRABRA being used with two children with profound hearing and speech impairments.
Target audience : Preschool-elementary school teachers
